About the Department

Ø Biotechnical Department of the University of Slavonski Brod officially started working when the University itself was established, on August 3, 2020. However, the history of teaching biotechnical studies dates back to 2003, when the Faculty of Agriculture in Osijek opened a dislocated undergraduate professional study programme of Plant Production (specialisation in Horticulture) in Slavonski Brod. Classes were held at the Matija Antun Reljković High School in Slavonski Brod, with the significant support of the then school principal, Vlado Prskalo. With the establishment of the College of Slavonski Brod in 2006, the Agricultural Department was established to carry out this study, with the support of the Faculty of Agriculture in Osijek. In 2012, the College (and thus the Department of Agriculture) successfully passed the first cycle of reaccreditation, as well as the next cycle, in 2019. In 2016, the Agency for Science and Higher Education awarded the College a certificate for an efficient, developed and functionally organized quality assurance system. In 2016, the College received the land in Slobodnica for long-term use, which is today’s experimental field of the Biotechnical Department. Since 2017, classes have been conducted at the Agricultural Department at the specialist graduate professional study programme Ecological Agriculture and Rural Development. The first elected Head of the department was Krunoslav Mirosavljević in the period from 2010 to 2012. From 2012 to 2018, the Head of the department was Teuta Benković-Lačić, and from 2018 to 2020 Božica Japundžić-Palenkić. The teachers of the department were located in the premises of the Đuro Đaković Group, Ulica dr. Mile Budaka 1 in Slavonski Brod.

Ø By integrating into the University, on the basis of the Agricultural Department of the College, the Biotechnical Department of the University is created. Teachers move to the University premises, also in Ulica dr. Mile Budaka 1, where there are also three laboratories and two IT classrooms. The first elected Head of the Biotechnical Department is Slavica Antunović, and the Deputy Head is Teuta Benković-Lačić.
